Research and Industrial Applications
Nanotechnological topics are subject to research at all Bavarian universities offering degrees for sciences and engineering sciences as well as at various private research institutions, such as Max-Planck-Gesellschaft (MPG) or Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft. The works cover nanomaterial synthesis, nanoanalytics, component devices and functional systems.
In many respects, nanotechnologies are of major interest to industrial applications:
- Specific nanomaterial development for a defined application.
Nanostructuring provides for example new electronic, optical or mechanical characteristics which cannot be offered by large-volume materials. - Nanotechnologies for the miniaturization of component devices and systems: This allows the increase of system capacities with the same volume while saving resources and it allows the reduction of manufacturing costs per function.
- Nanotechnologies offer an excellent base for the establishment of high technology companies in a wide field of different branches, such as construction industry, cosmetics industry, automotive engineering and communication technology.
- Nanotechnologies provide new and improved products. These innovations offer advantages in the global market and safeguard employment.
In the field of research and industrial applications, the Cluster Nanotechnology sees a major target in linking customers from the industrial sector with potential for nanotechnologies with suppliers of nanotechnologies from the research and industrial sectors.
