Managing Director of Nanoinitiative Bayern GmbH and Spokesman of the ‘Cluster Nanotechnologie’ is Prof. Dr. Alfred Forchel.

Alfred Forchel holds the Chair of the Department of Applied Physics and is the head of the Microstructure Laboratory at the Würzburg University. His research interests focus on semi-conductor nanomaterials, technologies for nanostructuring, nanophotonics and nanoelectronicss. In the work group of Alfred Forchel are, for example, produced and determined miniaturised semi-conductor lasers on the basis of semi-conductor quantum dots. Basic as well as application-oriented research works of this group are funded by Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG), the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), the European Commission and further third party funds. Close cooperations with the industry are exisiting with regard to application-oriented questions.
