Network day NanoSilver 2018

The network partners and the cluster nanotechnology welcome you to the annual network day NanoSilver. Get an insight into our work, find out about current and new applications and make new contacts around the topic of nano silver!

Topic of the Network day

The medical and food the sectors do have high hygiene requirements. Particularly dangerous are resistant bacteria, which can be transmitted to patients or consumers due to a lack of hygiene, but also via food transportation. Nano silver coatings can be a sustainable option in the fight against multidrug-resistant infections.

The antimicrobial effect of silver is based on its activity against a broad spectrum of even multi-resistant bacteria, yeasts, fungi and viruses.Becuase of its size, nanosilver shows more effective antimicrobial properties than bulk silver. Active silver ions (Ag +) can be released while the nanosilver particles remain bound in the matrix.

On the occasion of a joint project in the network, the network day NanoSilver 2018 takes place at the university medical centre in Regensburg (UKR). At the UKR, various surfaces within the emergency room are equipped with antimicrobial silver. Over a period of one year, the innovative coatings are compared with conventional surfaces to evaluate their effectiveness. The project will be presented at the network day.
